YBlog

The other day i was talking to a friend of mine about my blog and was pestering him to start one of his own. After much deliberation he agreed to pen down few of his thoughts.
During the course of my conversation with him i realized the very need to write blogs.

I think as human we are constantly trying to investigate, innovate and improvise to be somebody.Somebody who people can follow, people can feel proud about knowing. This constant self improvement pushes us to establish an identity for oneself.

In fact they say every successful man/women leverages the best of his traits to move forward.Hence the ability to realise and acknowledge ones strength and ones weakness leads one to shape an identity.

Identity in a lot of ways is a conglomerate of thoughts and ideas. When these thoughts and ideas take a shape they represent a persons identity.

So for me a blog is an Identity which is derived by the ideas/thoughts and opinion that you pen down and over a period once our thoughts start taking shape we would realize or acknowledge what we are and would be in a position to leverage the most out of it.

Pause for Thought

A visionary is somebody who doesn't look at what is going to be tommorrow ,but looks at day after tommorrow. :)

Difference between funda and bullshit
funda is something you dont understand at first go
and bullshit is something you dont understand even after repeated hammering.

Thinking and speech are symmetrical one fills the other spills.

Difference between Opinion and Perspective.

Opinion:I dont understand what you are saying nor do i know what i am saying.
Perspective: I cant deny what you are saying ,but i wont acknowledge.

Plagiarism at it best
Sell Java as Moka.(Since ever thing in java is free Moka ~ Opportunity)

Who cant have you ..."too bad"..
Who dont care for u .."too sad" ..
Who you cant have .." u deserve better "...

How much Flatter can it Get?

The question was asked to Thomas Friedman in a recent televised interview. What struck the cord was that this question has been lingering around in my head for quite some time.

Recently cisco announced a cutting edge technology that lets us virtually see a person even though he /she is miles or 7 seas away. I try bring to fore some wildly imaginative ideas which might just become a reality in coming century.

Let me begin with a Advertisement of a culinary giant where the protagonist in the AD opens a micro oven and gets the food served from a chief in a restaurant located in Italy.Sounds interesting but how can such a thing happen.Let me put forth an idea which would incite some activity in your grey cells.

The highest standard of measurement in a time /distant travel is light years.Which means that for us to have an object available to us from Italy the object would have to travel at the speed of light. But theory of relativity says that any object travelling at the speed of light would transform into energy i.e the object ceases to exist. That means that if an object does travel at the speed of light all we have is just energy, but i say we at least have some thing.I am sure every energy that gets generated by some form has certain set of characteristics. My guess if one is able to reverse engineer the entire energy into a the object ,the AD shown in the TV could actually become a reality.

Another interesting idea promoted by movies is that of person entering a door from one place
and as soon as he shuts the door he is into an all new place.I am sure Airline companies might be at great loss if such a thing happens.

So imagine you wake up in Switzerland, you walk or jog in the scenic alps, with an English breakfast in London and you go off to work in Manhattan, you are off to Germany of Binge drinking in the evening and in Varanasi at night for a spiritual healing all in single day.

That's the level of Flatting i can fathom.Let me know how flatter do you think the world can get.

Vairamangalam My Home Town

I decided to pen down my thoughts before it fades away from my memory like so many other touching and enlightening moments that happen to us.

The purpose was to pay a visit to our family deity. So i decided to take a day off and went for a total three day outing (if i may say). We(me and my dad) boarded a bus from Kalasipalyam (Bangalore) to Bhavani which is in Tamil Nadu.Clearing the traffic puzzle of bangalore took the drive nearly one and half hour before we reached the fag end of electronic city.

As usual i saw so many IT engineers a familiar site in Bangalore. Some time back my father wondered how quickly i identified Software engineers.I mentioned it was easy,if you happen to see a guy with a flab, receding hairline and if he wears all branded including his under ware(which of course) i cant see :) you have just met a software engineer. And ya i forgot to mention he would prefer(only) drinking purified mineral water.

We reached Hosur in about half an hour.Dad mentioned way back in 1974 when he had been here Hosur road used to be the only four lane road and drive on the road worth the money.
What an apathy now the feeling is visa -versa.

What amazed me was when we reached Hosur is that all the Sign Boards changed from Kannada to Tamil. The lingual divide which is the last thing that our country beacon's(I hope you understand my tone).

We reached a pit stop where we had our lunch and hit the road again.By 7:30 we had reached bhavani. My dad was so engrossed in the movie that was being played ,that i had to distract him to let the driver know where to stop.

We stopped by near a small kiosk.I wondered if we had got down at the right place. We crossed
the road and found few houses scatterred about 50 meters from each other a rarity in India.

If you want to give somebody a crash course in Hospitality i suggest take them to any village in India.I was amazed at the warmth with which i was received.

The next day we went to offer prayers at our family deities temple. Its about 20 kms from my cousins place. The prayers got over at 1 pm and we headed back home.I insisted to being taken to my fathers Birth Place viramangalam.
After offering prayers at one more temple ,we decided go to my dads home town.

Variamangalam is situated near bhavini Tamil Nadu.It has population of around 1000 people and main stay of the village is farming.Situated in between 5 small villages ,it is literally surrounded by paddy fields.

We reached my grand uncles house (supposedly my grandpa's father's house ) at around 7:30 pm.
It was dark and i could scantly see.But got a feeling of belonging to the place.
There was this serenity around which made it even more impregnable.

The driver stopped the vehicle near a relatively a new house. The house had tiled roof a common sight in villages. When we got down there were about 5 ladies clad with white Saree.

It was moment i can hardly forget. The ladies immediately recognised my father ,but they had
never seen me.Since it was dark they came close by to have a closer look at me.

My cousin decided to take me to the river that runs right behind the village.Meanwhile my father said he would call for muthu if i may say my father's "longoti" yaar.
When i came back to the house i saw there were close to 5 people inside all smiling with an enthusiasm to hear from me.

I immediately recognised muthu. He had squatted on the floor, lanky, toot less, with a dark complexion muthu clearly fitted my imagination.
Dad requested me to give away 5 rupees to all people who had come to see us as a token of remembrance.I refused since i realised that i had more things to learn than give to those elderly people who had seen life much more than me and had the years of rustic wisdom.

We started to leave is when i shook hands with muthu.Muthu was pleasantly taken aback since he was not quite used to the new india a land of equals. He unfortunately belonged to an era where cast ism had clearly made his vision blur. That's when i realised wasn't my vision also blurred.

I had clearly learnt my lesson and i long to go back again to learn many more lesson in my pursuit of happiness.

Mother

This poem is a tribute to my lovely mother who is no more with me.

I see you gushing your passion
Clearing the doorway of darkness of Ignorance
Like that part of the sun
which sparkles in the dark sky like a midnight sun.

In the world full of decieving people
Admiring and blaming your action
you are the only silver line in the dark cloud
prevention by whom makes darkness away from a life full of wood.

Tree Whispers

It is so beautiful tonight
Why are you not at peace
It is so beautiful tonight

I have felt the wind
I have shouldered the snow
For years now i have seen seasons flow

I was young and wanted to touch the sky
Proudy yet was shy
Shy of being trampled
Shy of being blown away
I wanted to prove and show that i could stay

It is so beautiful tonight
Why are you not at peace
It is so beautiful tonight

I moved along and never felt it was a song
I wanted to grow and reach heights and i always said
"Oh !! come on it shouldnt take this long"

It is so beautiful tonight
Why are you not at peace
It is so beautiful tonight

Seasons Changed
Friends ranged
I was growing tall
But i wanted to grab them all

It is so beautiful tonight
Why are you not at peace
It is so beautiful tonight

Look at me know how i bend
I am testimony to the message i send
The wind flutters and i tap the tapper
I no more ask for a reason on why around me things clutter

I may exists to cease
Shouldnt i be at peace.

It is so beautiful tonight
Why are you not at peace
It is so beautiful tonight

PHP(Philiosophy,Human Nature and Programming)

After much deliberation ,that i write this space where i would try to describe on how i constantly fall in love with "The Art of Creating Programs".

Not long ago i was attending these slew of interviews, you name the company in the industry and i would have attended their interview.Well the Prelimenary Rounds used to generally involve abt 5000 to 6000 people.I would always get through the first few rounds ,no matter how tough the interview rounds used to be.But i used to invariably fail in the Tech Interview.

Well the reason !!! "I not interested in programming :) so i am good at it."

Unfortunately My first Employer was the only one who probably noticed when i said "I will Work Hard"...
a euphemism for "I dont know things but i will work like a donkey".

I was in dire need of a job and my folks were surprised that their "Brilliant Son" hasnt got a job yet...

So finally the company did take me and then begins the story of my love....

When i was handed over my offer leter ,i was speachless for the whole of the day.Well i noticed that not many were like me,most of them were boasting about having jobs from at least one more company .

Anyways i wasnt bothered ... Well what the heck i had finally landed up with a job.Now what i am supposed to do ... "Program"

Check out the Designation i was given ..."Programmer Analyst".
The training days were fun.. I was surrounded by brilliant guys ,so never learnt how to program. Then finally one day they put me in to a project and then began the journey....

One of things that i find which is very close to Programming is Human Nature..Human ,the world and universe atlarge are at the end of the day trying to reach equilibrium. To achive this equilibrium the human nature and the universe in general exhibit emotions which are controlled, aberrate, passive, active, encouranging, learning and interacting. It is this process involving different building blocks constantly trying to reach an independent state ,yet be able to help, accomodate to achieve a state of balance makes the process exciting and in need of constant improvement.

Now Replace Human with Objects or World with Technology and Universe with Business..

Makes sense :) .. if So continue...

So how do i learn to be the guy who has the vision to build software which brings in a change in life of others i.e"yet be able to help, accomodate " .

One of the things i relate to well is the human nature to decorate our belonging be it our house, our cabin and our selfs in general(i mean grooming and primming),now one might say for what ????

Think abt it...Probably to make our neighbours jealous(in case of a house) or find a Girlfriend or boyfriend (in case of priming our self). The interesting part about the same is the we are trying to reach equilibrium with our inner self or a harmony which the society demands for an order..

Now coming to patterns.. Ok The Google Defines " pattern is a form, template, or model (or, more abstractly, a set of rules) "...

Why do we need rules ,because we need an order. So patterns are tested templates to achive order.

How to achieve this order? Population inversion a possible solution. In nuclear physics the Phenomenon of population inversion, where the high-energy electrons sooner or later emit radiation in the form of photons and drop down to a lower state; conversely, those at low levels may absorb radiation and jump to a higher level.

Population inversion is analogic to every actitvity that we perform in a day to day life.

Now i relate to the next example,We as children are constantly monitored and controlled by our parents and taught on how to live in a society and adapt our self to the situations.

Now in the above line if you notice there are cleary three patterns..
Monitored - Proven to protect and advice.
Controlled - Proven to handle troublesome natured kids(Objects).
Adapt - Humans can survive in a environment only if they cooperate ,so should the objects.

In a case of a problem which may be related to the world to a specific country ,to a province ,to a city or a person is an inclination towards a solution which is simple.

In terms of programming the objective of a programmer should be aimed simplyfying a problem at hand.

Take for example a CAR .There inumerable things that the car performs in order to operate ,but when comes to a consumer the only thing he knows about is a steering, clutch, break and accelerator. Now thats called simplyfying a problem at hand.

The launch of iphone has seetered a debate abt where are we going to get in another 5 years. Now the anchor of a TV show remarked that in probably some years we would just hold a hand against our ear and would probably be talking to somebody with a phone embedded within our palm.
If that happens software would have simplified the most common thing the art of communication ,though in this case it would be to communicate to somebody who is placed at a distance far from us.

Life in the Slow Lane.

Eagles wrote life in the fast lane and the worlds richest man wroteBusiness at the speed of though well perhaps the grim reminder of the fact that we indeed have started moving really really fast.

Is fast detrimental to us... Carl Honore in his book In the Praise of Slow explains just that !!!
Honore explains his theory by analysing that Darwin once said "The survival of fittest" and not "The survival of the fastest".

He explains about the fact that time has come that we get a hold of our life by striking a balance
or say stike a rythme which is nethier to fast nor too slow.

Shantaram

Shantaram::Georgy David Roberts

What do i say !!! It is an amazing book with too much philosophy to digest. One requires patience
to go through the 900 page odd book.

It is book filled with action ,drama ,romance ,gangsters, poverty that you sometimes wonder ''Is it really a true story".

The author has done a excellent job of detailing thing that one can imagine and going overboad into very intricate details which can sometimes be very boring.

Happy Reading
